Food, fashion, art, architecture: Empire builder and style icon Alex Eagle takes a 360-degree approach to chic living. With top designers, entertainers, and everyone else that matters on speed dial, this impeccably dressed and witty yet warm and self-effacing Brit is one of the most respected global tastemakers in retail and fashion.
Soho House recently co-opted Eagle’s Midas touch to create a lifestyle store at their Berlin location, where she has summoned the right amounts of directional and timeless ideas in perfect balance. Luckily, the bustling Mitte neighborhood suits her.
“I love wandering round the streets near The Store,” she tells us. “Auguststrasse and Linienstrasse have lots of great galleries, shops, and restaurants.” Eagle opened up her little black book of Berlin, so we could share her inspirations.
“Daniel Heer’s shop and workshop are together, so you can watch Daniel at work, and browse all his beautiful products in one place.”
“Luiban sells curated niche stationary that is hard to find—beautiful pens and papers from around the world. They have an edited space in The Store, too.”
“This incredibly rich and bountiful magazine shop offers a brilliant edit of books and magazines from around the world, spanning art, culture, fashion, travel, and architecture. I can get lost in there for hours.”
“I always take visiting friends to the Boros bunker, a historical site that houses an incredible contemporary art collection. They give you a private tour, and within an hour you’ve had your culture hit.”
“Helmut Newton is one of my all-time creative heroes. This is an essential stop-off for anyone interested in photography and fashion; even interiors and architecture. The breathtaking interior is an artwork in itself.”
6 —Katz Orange
“Katz Orange is a walk away from Soho House. It’s fun to go with a group of friends and try their delicious cocktails. Be sure to have an appetite when you go!”
“I love Street Food Thursday. It’s food from around the globe, as well as traditional German fare, and delicious vegan and vegetarian offerings.”
“My go-to for a cozy yet sophisticated Italian fix. I love the open kitchen, right behind the counter—and their portions are beyond generous. Try anything with truffles, especially the pasta. In warm weather, sit outside and watch the world go by.”
“I created The Store to be a hybrid retail, art, and hospitality lifestyle concept, mixing music, fashion, healthy seasonal food, art, and flowers—a place to hang out as much as to shop. Here Vêtements and Jil Sander coexist happily with streetwear and local artisan items that I have huge fun sourcing. I love that people will come just to drink a fresh pressed juice or a coffee, eat at The Store Kitchen, or listen to music I’ve selected.”
