This month, we’re thrilled to announce that four design-driven properties will soon be joining the global Design Hotels collection. We can’t share all the details quite yet, but we’ve signed a hotel on the Greek island of Zakynthos, opening in June, a French alpine chalet in Sallanches that looks across the border to Mont Blanc, a new property in Taipei, and for the first time ever, a property in the lush and alluring country of Vietnam, specifically its bustling southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon.
Watch this space for all the details on these properties and much more…
In 2016 the renowned Dutch chef Marco Westmaas opened Parc Broekhuizen, a culinary hotel (and soon-to-be Design Hotels property) housed in a remarkable castle on lush parklands near Utrecht. The following year it debuted Dinner at the Parc, bringing together some of the world’s most celebrated chefs for several days of cooking, dining and celebration on the gorgeous historical grounds.
Now the culinary event of the year is back, taking place for four days from June 15-18 at Parc Broekhuizen in collaboration with Design Hotels, with a spectacular culinary harvest that features master chefs from all corners of the world along with wine tastings, featuring a variation of unique Vins Naturels, orange wines and wines from Jerez, as well as an introduction to the top three rosé wines of the world. Centered on Groner Tor, the district will incorporate Göttingen University’s Forum Wissen (Museum of Knowledge), when it opens in 2020, and this summer it will welcome Hotel Freigeist, a forward-thinking enclave of art, ideas, design, and hospitality.

Beginning this July, anyone visiting the Greek capital will have the chance to stay at a remarkable new boutique property, Perianth. Housed in an interwar modernist structure reshaped by the country’s hottest design firm, K-Studio, the hotel shares the space with the Zen Center Athens, a unique institution devoted to meditation, martial arts, yoga, and Eastern philosophy. We just received these under-construction images of The Hide, a remarkable new retreat opening its doors this December among the snow-capped peaks and valleys of Flims in the Graubünden canton of eastern Switzerland. An update on the classic Swiss chalet, the Hide is the latest bold creation of the Gothenburg-based, multi-award-winning design team of Stylt Trampoli, who recently gave us another Design Hotels member, Huus Gstaad. Incorporating natural materials and earth tones, The Hide’s design concept considers the dramatic natural surroundings, which are also ideal for skiing, hiking, and an array of other outdoor activities. In this new series, we’ll let you know about new properties and destinations as soon as they join the global Design Hotels collection of handpicked independent properties. Often we’ll withhold the name of the hotel and share only the destination—blind item style—as a proper launch is still in the works. Continue reading “You heard it here first…”
